So uhm, I was considering taking up TT again after some long years, or at least, building an army, not that I'll ever have opportunity to use it. I'd just like to know if anyone would reccomend either the Word Bearers Chaos Legion, or the Inquisition (Probably Ordo Xenos), as an option to go for first.

I quite intend to end up with a reasonable Chaos Warband and an Inquisitorial Levy eventually anyway, but I didn't think it could hurt to ask. Anyone got some reccomendations for some "fluffy" structure for either of them?

- Yours, Fox.

Wow for treating the thread seriously, guys :roll:

@ Foxy: personally, I'd go with Chaos, mainly because their rulebook is more up to date and I enjoy playing them myself. If you're going for a Word Bearers force, get Defilers and a load of Cult Troops, and round it off with the odd leader and a few cannon-fodder units of Generic Daemon Packs. Ties the enemy up and allows your Defilers to Battle Cannon the resulting blobs of infantry.

Of course, against a mech-based army you're going to need different tactics . . .

Can one still buy wound with this new codex, and can we buy daemonic gifts twice?

The Armoury, unfortunately, is gone. However, you can do a lot of very nasty things with it. It's just a shame the "Legions" feel has gone out of the Codex - it's more "Renegades".

Ah well, apparently a Chaos Legions Codex is in the making.

No. The Chaos Warshitband Pirate Smugglers Pinky and the Brain "Argh me hearties" codex of 4.5th Edition is one of the worst codexes in terms of balance, sense and fluff, with no flavour to an army. Its like going to a pick and mix store, and finding different colours of **** to choose from.

Inquisitorial is not available for Ordo Xenos just yet - Space Marines with Inquisitorial Allies generally work the best - alternatively, count Grey Knights as Deathwatch Space Marines etc.

For example, this is a list similar to a 2000 point army with a mix of both Inquisitorial (GK) and Space Marine.

HQ = 464
Pedro Kantor = 175

Ordo Malleus Inq Lord (Psycannon, Auspex, Psychic Hood, Teleport Homer, 2x Sage, 3x Mystics, 3x Gun Servitors (3x Heavy Bolter), 3x Acolytes with Combi-Melta) = 289

Elites = 1080
10 Sternguard Veterans, 5x Combi Flamers, 5x Combi-Meltas, Power Fist, Drop Pod, 360

10 Sternguard Veterans, 5x Combi Flamers, 5x Combi-Meltas, Power Fist, Drop Pod, 360

10 Sternguard Veterans, 5x Combi Flamers, 5x Combi-Meltas, Power Fist, Drop Pod, 360

Troops
5 Scout Squad, 4x Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Camo Cloaks = 100

5 Scout Squad, 4x Sniper Rifles, Missile Launcher, Camo Cloaks = 100

10 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, 2x Meltagun = 70pts

9 Inquisitorial Storm Troopers, 2x Meltagun = 70pts

= 1994

I'd say wait for Inquisitorial as they are going to have a redone codex soon, (perk of knowing 5 regional managers!) and will get plastic models instead of a lot of the medal ones. Chaos will not be redone for about 5-6 years minimum.

I know 9,001 regional managers and they all say Codex: Chaos Legions/Legions of Chaos is in planning and due for release sometime in the next five years.

Rumours are rumours.

First of all, 9001? Gimme a break. Even though chaos just got a redo a year and a half ago and Inquisition hasn't had one in over 7. The only one that needs a makeover that bad is the Nerons. If anything, the chaos legions will be an online addon or a White Dwarf thing like the Blood Angels were. That would be more practical considering how the poor economy has hit Games Workshop. The prices have gone up, and the stores are starting to close. 4 by me have already shut down, and that means things are bad.

Dark Eldar are traveling the path of the Squats. You wait, those Tyrannids will find a way into the Webway soon enough.

That's why they included them in the Battle Missions book, right? And not the inquisition.

By the way, that book is awesome! Tried out one of the marine missions was great fun! ;)

Dark Eldar are basically non-existent. GW is most likely going to just discontinue them entirely when the Eldar are redone. Kinda like the thing they did with the Imperial Guard and the Tanith First and Only. You could still play them, but like I said before, with the economy, it would most likely be a White Dwarf codex.

Have you payed attention at all in the last couple months? GW has been overdoing itself, going from "balance balance" and one or two new sets per codex update to "we want an awesome army" and redoing entire model lines, look at the Space Wolves, the Blood Angels, the Imperial Guard and Space Marines. Space Wolves got a complete overhaul, even a fucking big wolf for your captain to ride (with no leash at all).

Saying that the economy is going to stop GW from awesomefying the DE is like saying a 18+ age block keeps kids under 18 off the material.

lol I think he was meaning with the economy as it is there will be less people buying miniatures. As for Dar Eldar being to adult, that's tosh. I doubt they will make any more because no one buys them, never have.

Yes, that is what I meant. I am not sure if you realized the downsizing and the upping of prices going on. The entire GW chain is losing a ton of money because of so little buying, and are cutting some of their losses. IE: Dark Eldar, as nobody plays them. The few people that do are declined for games as the rules are unfair because they are outdated. 2+ invul being so cheap for them is stupid. They most likely will just do something like Space Hulk for DE where it is a limited time mini army available for purchase.

Yes because the sisters can't get a 2+ invul... :roll:

Not Easily, or Cheaply. Still, I think DE are just going to be let go like they might do with some things in normal warhammer, don't ask me which as I don't know offhand, and also some of the paints too, for some weird reason that i don't know. I think they need to do a bit of recalculating on what they are doing, cause a lot of people like the things they are cancelling.

Suppossedly the dark eldar are already done. At this point it's mass production, mould finishing and waiting for the perfect moment. Suppossedly... ;)
